Blue Ivy and her father Jay Z
What this unemployment is going to cause eh! A petition to comb another woman’s hair? Really? Ever so often, a petition comes along so ridiculous, so absolutely ignorant, that it takes our breath away. A petition started by Change.org user Jasmine Toliver targeting the kinks of Blue Ivy’s hair definitely falls into that category.
Toliver is apparently so offended that Blue Ivy’s mother Beyonce doesn’t tame her daughter’s hair to meet society’s standards, and she has decided to take maters into her own hands. The petition has amassed 1489 signatures.
The petition, which can be found at change.org reads:
As a woman who understands the importance of hair care. It’s disturbing to watch a child suffering from the lack of hair
moisture. The parents of Blue Ivy. Sean Carter A.K.A Jay-Z and Beyoncé has failed at numerous attempts of doing Blue Ivy Hair. This matter has escalated to the child developing matted dreads and lint balls. Please let’s get the word out to properly care for Blue Ivy hair.
After Toliver was (rightfully) called out for the petition, she took to Facebook with the following message:
“My joke took off anything I guess with “sign a petition” is funny if I would’ve said “sign a petition to save Lebron James hairline” that would’ve took off to! It’s a clever joke.! Nobody came up with before. These blogs and websites are doing the most. My hair look like blue ivy right now except its moisturized and detangled. Yes I’m natural.! Have a seat to most people. I can care less about Beyoncé or jay-z but I do care for the kids hair. People make nothing out of something. I love being black! I’m proud my bloodline runs from Africa. I’m proud of my own tightly coiled kinks. I’m proud of my big lips and brown skin. People just need to breath and chill out.”
It’s important to understand that there are many different things to be worried about in this world. There are children going to bed hungry in this country, some being abused and neglected. Seriously neglected. And yet, here you are. Targeting a child whose parents make more than enough money to care for her. Just because you don’t approve of how they care for her hair, doesn’t mean that you have the right to ask others to band together and sign a petition to force Beyonce and Jay-Z to satisfy you by taking care of their child according to your wishes. You, my friend, have some serious psychological issues and you need to get yourself checked out. I wouldn’t have bothered to do this, but I just can’t sit back watch you bash a two year old’s hair. Have you ever stopped to think that perhaps there are underlying reasons, or maybe there are none, but either way; is it really your business and/or your place to tell them how they should care for their baby’s hair?
The level of interest in this little girl's hair is insane and is nothing but a mere reflection of the general public’s obsession with her rich and famous parents. I sense self-hate, simultaneously with hate and jealous for Beyonce and Jay Z. The people clearly have too much free time on their hands!
